Local Code vs. County Ordinance

Posted on May 22, 2015

How many of you feral cat caretakers have received warning notices and/or citations from your town’s police or code enforcement officials for feeding and sheltering the outside cats?

As an approved Sponsor for the Cook County Managed Feral Cat Ordinance, Triple R Pets is often asked for help by11261707_358378397694171_8703454903287772476_n our registered Caretakers in hearings and courts. Our volunteers do our best, but we are not lawyers and sometimes town officials are not always willing to accept a Careteker’s right to feed and shelter feral cats.

Triple R Pets also advocates for the Ordinance in the local communities by proposing to partner with the Cities, Villages, and Townships that are looking to pro-actively start TNR in their community, enact new local ordinances in relation to Feral Cats, or provide education for the Government Employees or Officials. In a majority of these scenarios, we are interfacing with Village Boards, Village Attorneys, and Animal Services.

Thanks to Rochelle Michalek now volunteering her expertise and experience for RRR Pets, we will be seeking help from the legal community. We are looking for attorneys who are versed in the Cook County Managed Care of Feral Cats Ordinance and can provide feedback to the local government concerns on citations that are in conflict with the Ordinance. Attorneys would volunteer their time, expertise, and knowledge to this effort with the expected time commitment as one (maybe two, if —— time permits) situations a year. Attorneys would be part of the Triple R Pets’ Team that is currently responsible for addressing local government concerns.

An Educational Forum on the Cook County Managed Care of Feral Cats Ordinance, and historical arguments or responses to opposition will be held as part of the training. We look forward to our Cat Advocate Attorneys joining the Triple R Volunteer Team. If you are interested or have any questions, please email Rochelle Michalek at rochellemichalek@icloud.com, or contact her at 312.802.1637.
