Our Current TNR Programs
Triple R Pets offers several programs for free roaming cats and their caretakers.
Within Cook County, Illinois
In October 2008, Cook County, Illinois passed the Managed Care of Feral Cats Ordinance. This ordinance provides legal protection for feral cats and feral cat caretakers who are in compliance with the ordinance. In November 2008, the six sponsors of the feral cat ordinance made a presentation to the Cook County Commissioners which showed the success of the TNR program.
Compliance with the Cook County Ordinance (also applies to unincorporated areas of Cook County) is actually quite easy! Just follow these three steps and you will be afforded the protection this ordinance offers:
- Spay or Neuter your feral cats. Ferals must also be vaccinated for rabies with a Cook County tag, ear tipped, and microchipped. Contact Triple R pets for assistance with TNR and with getting your ferals their basic veterinary package. Fill out the Request for TNR Assistance Form through our website (coming soon!).Triple R Pets asks that the caretaker participate in the TNR Program by following the program guidelines, by helping with the cost of surgery, typically $30 per cat, and with trapping and transporting the cats.
- Become a feral cat caretaker by signing up with a sponsor. Triple R Pets is a sponsor agency with the Cook County Feral Cat Ordinance. Complete the Feral Cat Colony Caretaker Form and return it to Triple R Pets. Or contact any of the other five sponsors.
- Register your feral cats. Complete the Colony Registration Form for every cat in the colony and return the completed form to Triple R Pets (contact information is on the form).
